News news news!

Hey there music people!

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind-BIG TIME! Re my new solo record: I will be releasing a third free track for you immediately titled “Sunset Blvd” a bluesy/edgy drunken tale about crawling around the bars of Los Angeles looking for a lost girlfriend… sound familiar? Thought so. Download it now!

Another song that is on my upcoming record Black Art of Blue titled “Wish You Well” was just featured on the TV show Covert Affairs during a rooftop BBQ scene involving Spy vs. Spy intrigue; exactly what I was thinking when I wrote it! I love it when I hear my music coming out of the cool fire. It’s looking like the JC house concert scene will pick up in late summer through the fall. I’ll let you know the dates as we get closer to that time of year; it just stopped raining in Seattle so I’m not in a big rush for fall just yet. If all goes according to plan the new Joie Calio solo record (my 3rd) will be released September 13th. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- I couldn’t have done it without your support… THANK YOU! At that time there will be original paintings as well as prints/ T-shirts/ my book/ and music, of course, all available to you.

The other musical endeavor that has been taking a lot of my time and effort lately is the new band SEVEN HORSE which consists of myself and Phil Leavitt. It is very different from dada and my solo music. We just finished a 10 song record and are currently working on the next steps. I’m REALLY excited about this band. It is a blues/rock/alt country affair that has a lot of energy and soul. Think Black Keys/ Son House/ Keith Richards/ the next door neighbors of the Ramones who can’t stop listening to Led Zeppelin 3. Look for this band to be on the road not just in the studio.

Where does all of this leave dada? Well that record has been put on hold for now which I know isn’t what hard core dada fans want to hear, but as far as I can tell from the inside there will be an effort made to continue working on that record at some point in the future when all 3 dada members can put 100% into the music. As with all my musical situations, it is very difficult to get things done without the machinery of a record company and management- but NOT IMPOSSIBLE! You will never see my name on a list of people who have retired from the music MAKING business.

Please let me know in the comments what you think of the new Joie song! ……..j

Bette Davis Margaritas

I’m excited to announce my new website. To celebrate the new site and release of Bette Davis Kills (download it), I thought I’d post a special beverage recipe.

If you are looking for something to cool yourself down with while listening to Bette Davis Kills, why not try a killer margarita? If you want one of the best drinks you’ll ever have, follow the directions EXACTLY! Do not skimp or your drink will be a wimp.
Per drink-
Chill all alcohol in freezer for a few hours at least before and keep them there if you have any left over
2 shots either Herradura Anjeo (my favorite) or Reposado (or equivalent- that doesn’t mean Jose Cuervo anything- its got to be great and don’t fall for the line “that tequila is too good for margaritas”- BS)
4 Tbls FRESH squeezed lime juice (thin skin is what you want)
1-2 Tbls FRESH squeezed OJ
1½ Tbls SUPERFINE sugar
1-1½ Tbls Cointreau

Shake by hand in a cocktail shaker DO NOT MIX IN BLENDER
Pour over ice in a glass- DO NOT GO ALL MARGARITAVILLE AND MIX WITH ICE IN A BLENDER!

Crank up Bette Davis Kills…and enjoy!
